The global penetration of premium WordPress themes has seen the creation of dozens of start up companies over the past few years as WordPress website owners become increasingly aware of the benefits surrounding the purchase of pre-coded, packaged products. Not too long ago, a successful website owner would almost always be forced to allocate a substantial portion of his/her budget toward the programming and maintenance of a site in order to be successful, but that trend has been strongly shifting toward content generation since the turn of the decade. One such theme, U-Design by ThemeForest, surpassed 25,000 total sales this past week, which represents well over $1 million in overall revenue for the download – not bad for a theme that was created less than two years ago.
Since June 2011, U-Design has been purchased 25,273 times (its modified single license purchase price is currently $55). A total of 2,770 customers have opted to give a rating on the download, which has held firm at 5 Out Of 5 Stars for over a year. It may not surprise our readers that U-Design is the top selling WordPress theme on ThemeForest of all time while also holding the record for most revenue generated and most consecutive weeks ranked at #1. It is compatible with WordPress 3.0 and later – including Version 3.5 Elvin – and works on all of today’s widely used browsers such as Internet Explorer (IE7+), Firefox, Google Chrome, Safari and Opera.
On the theme’s official landing page, the developer states that “SEO (Search Engine Optimization) has been made a priority when designing the U-Design theme. In the code hierarchy, the main content block is placed before the sidebar regardless of the sidebar position, so it is crawled first by search engines. Another very powerful SEO feature has been implemented regarding Heading (h1, h2, h3,…) tags in that on the Home page the ‘h1’ tag is assigned to the site name and the rest of pages/posts/archives etc., the main Title has been assigned an ‘h1’ tag.”
U-Design boasts seven content sliders, more than 500 fonts, unlimited color variations, a widgetized homepage, background uploader, along with sortable portfolios. As its name infers, the theme can be easily customized by even beginning webmasters with extremely little WordPress site webmastering experience due to its simplified control panel options that allow for major changes without having to touch any code.
The top selling theme was designed by ThemeForest Elite Author internq7 and offers a dedicated support staff that will respond to queries in less than 6 hours (this could go a long way toward explaining the astronomical User Ratings). Current or potential customers who have questions regarding the theme are asked to sign up to the product’s Support Forum.
The most recent update to U-Design took place earlier this month (Version 1.9.1), with 62 new Google fonts, a Revolution Slider tweak, Dutch translation, and several improvements made.
U-Design, despite its approaching two-year anniversary, receives an average of approximately 20 comments per week by interested parties. Over the weekend, ThemeForest user jezhops provided his thoughts, replying that U-Design is a “fantastic theme, everything works really nicely, no gremlins, very very flexible, by far the best WP theme ive used and I have used a lot. Particularly like the choice of sliders, nice short codes, most of all I think this is the only theme I have seen to effectively combine a widgetized homepage with short codes… and hold it all together. Great job, thanks!”
